AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team completed the series sweep in the season opener with a pair of wins over Howard Payne. Zach Seigrist & Colby Christian went yard in game one, while Landon Hyle & Carson Riley homered in game two at Gardner-Boggs Field on Saturday.

GAME ONE: CTX wins, 15-2 (7 Innings)

Otto Franz pitched a masterpiece as he earned the win with six strikeouts and only one hitter on-base in 5.0 innings of action.

The Tornados got off to a hot start in the first as Seigrist and Christian made it a 3-0 score. Later in the frame with the bases loaded, Logan Smith connected on a two-RBI single to score Kalen Clark & Bo Dinscore. Later in the frame with the bases juiced and two outs, Aaron Gomez tallied a RBI-walk to make it a 6-0 score entering the second.

Keeping up the momentum, Clark slapped a RBI-double & Smith found a two-RBI double to make it a 9-0 score. After a scoreless third, Seigrist notched a RBI-double & Gomez tallied a two-RBI single to make it 12-0. The next two runs of the fourth inning would come when the Tornados capitalized on a pair two-out errors. Matthew Armes would then tally a bases-loaded, RBI-walk for a 15-0 score. With the game in hand, the Yellowjackets would plate two runs in the seventh before conceding game one.

GAME TWO, CTX wins 15-5 (7 Innings)

Christian batted in Seigrist to open up the scoring in the first. In the next at bat, Dinscore earned a sac fly to score Gomez from third. Eric Gomez would then slide a RBI-double up the right field line to score Christian & Jake Townsend would post a RBI-single to round Garcia home for a 4-0 lead. Landon Hyle would then clap a two-RBI homer to left, while Carson Riley made it 7-0 with a solo homer over the metal monster in left. 

The eighth run came via a RBI-single through the left side by Christian to score Seigrist, while Gomez also scored for the second time in the inning to make it a 9-0 game heading into second. 

CTX extended their lead to 10-0 with savvy base running by Riley in the bottom of the third. Later in the inning with two outs & runners on the corners, Dinscore brought in Seigrist with a RBI-single through the left side. Garcia, Hyle, & Smith would all then notch RBI-singles to right field for a 14-0 lead. 

The Yellowjackets scored five in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 14-5, but a standup RBI-double by Dinscore brought home Gomez to push the advantage back up to 10. Neither team would score again as the Tornaods would earn a run-rule victory.

Concordia Texas will next travel to Abilene, Texas for a road series beginning next Friday at 7pm.
