Softball Earns Series Win Over St. Thomas

The Tornados won a pair of games on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team earned a series victory by winning both games of the doubleheader against St. Thomas. The Tornados won 9-2 & 4-3 on Saturday.

GAME ONE: W, 9- 2

The Tornados put up three runs in the first on  RBIs by Molly Olivarez, Kylie Kirk, & Addison Lehew. They then added a fourth run in the third with a Grace Coleman RBI-single to bring home Harley Drouillard.

The Celts cut the deficit in half with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Tornaods would respond with more insurance runs in the top of the seventh following RBIs by Kirk & Lehew (two). Another run would come with Caylee Spangle capitalizing on an error, and the final run of game one with a Kylie Pavlicek RBI scoring Taylor Smrt.

GAME TWO: W, 4-3

St. Thomas scored two runs in the first for an early lead. CTX reduced the deficit to 2-1 when Christian Everett singled to right field and scored Lehew. They then tied the game in the top of the third when Olivarez put the ball in play and was able to send Denaro home. 

The Celts reclaimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the third. After both teams went scoreless in the fourth & fifth, Concordia evened the game in the sixth with a sac fly from Pavlicek that was able to escort Ariana Murray across the plate. They would then take the lead when Everett utilized heads up base running to race home.

Concordia Texas will next host Carnegie Mellon in non-conference action this Monday, March 3rd. First pitch is set for 3pm.
