AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against UMHB. The Crusaders claimed game one 8-0, while the Tornados responded with an 8-3 game two victory at Roberts Family Field on Tuesday.
GAME ONE: L, 8-0 (5 Innings)
The Crusaders opened up the game with one run in the first. They then broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the third. Both teams would then combine for five straight no score innings as UMHB would claim the run-rule victory.
GAME TWO: W, 8-3
Coming out inspired, the Tornaods juiced the bases in the first and took the lead on a Kylie Pavlicek RBI-single that scored Malarie Mican. They then extended their lead to 3-0 thanks to a Taylor Smrt two-RBI single up the middle that brought Lehew & Kirk home.
In the bottom of the second following Mican capitalizing on a throwing error, Kylie Denaro connected on a RBI-single up the middle to score her and make it a 4-0 game. CTX then pushed the advantage up to 5-0 when the reigning SCAC Hitter of the Week Addison Lehew pushed the ball down the right field line to escort Kylie Pavlicek home.
The Crusaders got their lone run of game two in the third, but CTX would up the lead back up to five with a RBI-single up the left field line to score Mican in the bottom of the fourth. They would then up it to 7-1 thanks to a triple by Smrt & RBI-single into left by Grace Coleman. Christian Everett would then escort Coleman home with another RBI-single to left for a 8-1 advantage.
UMHB recorded two runs in the sixth for an 8-3 score. They then added one more in seventh, but Concordia would halt the Crusaders with a throw out at home from Denaro to Molly Olivarez as the final out to even the series.
Concordia Texas will next head to San Antonio for a huge conference series against Trinity. First pitch is set for 6pm.
