Softball Takes Two in Doubleheader with Southwestern

The Tornados' win streak has reached 11.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team dominated with a pair of run-rule victories in a doubleheader with Southwestern University to extend their win streak to 11 games. Kylie Kirk homered & produced another one-hitter in game one at Roberts Family Field on Friday.

GAME ONE: W, 11-0 (7 Innings)

The Tornados struck first with a RBI-double from Addison Lehew that scored Malarie Mican in the first. Later in the frame, Taylor Smrt made it 3-0 with a two-RBI base hit that escorted Lehew & Molly Olivarez home.

They then upped the lead to 4-0 in the second when Karlee Mathis doubled to left center and scored Grace Coleman. Kylie Denaro would then also double and score Christian Everett. Making it 7-0 was Kirk with her two-run shot to left. Molly Olivarez would then tally a RBI-single up the middle that scored Lehew for an 8-0 lead heading into the third.

Kirk would then send two more through home with a single that scored Harley Drouillard & Everett for a 10-0 advantage. Powering the 11th run with a single to right center was Everett who scored Coleman. The Pirates would break up Kirk's no-hit bid with a hit in the fifth, but CTX would go on to run-rule Southwestern.

GAME TWO: W, 10-2 (5 Innings)

The Pirates scored their first run of the doubleheader in the top of the first. CTX would answer in the bottom of the inning with a pair of RBIs from Denaro & Lehew. They would then go up 3-1 in the second with another Denaro RBI that scored Kylie Pavlicek.

Mathis would push the lead to 4-1 in the third with a single to left center that brought home Katie Bethke. Later in the inning, Denaro tallied another two RBIs with a single to left center that scored Caylee Spangle & Everett for a 6-1 lead.

Maintaining momentum, Smrt doubled to left field and scored Olivarez in the fourth. Mathis then scored Smrt with a RBI-single to right center to make it 8-1. Everett would put the run-rule into effect again with a single through the left side that scored Mathis.

Southwestern would avoid having the game end early with a run scored in the top of the fifth, but Olivarez would walk off the game with a single up the middle & score Drouillard.

Concordia Texas & Southwestern will conclude the series with the series finale tomorrow. First pitch of Senior Day is scheduled for 2pm.
