SHERMAN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team won their first two matches of the season at the Austin College Classic. The Tornados took down Arcadia University by a score of 3-1 & blanked New England College with a 3-0 sweep at Hughey Gym on Friday.

vs. Arcadia, W 3-1 (25-11, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15)

The Tornados raced out to an 8-0 lead to start the match & the season. CTX would claim their first double-digit lead at 12-2, & would not look back as they won the opening frame 25-11.

With the score tied 4-4 early in set two, Arcadia tallied four straight points for control of the game. Their lead would grow to as much as 17-7, but a kill by Brooklynne Fitzgerald would inspire a Tornado comeback. The Knights would ultimately hold on for a 25-20 win to tie the series.

CTX led 17-16 late in set three, before an Emma Rosier assist set up another Fitzgerald kill to spark a 5-0 run. This would be enough to help Concordia win the game 25-18 & go up 2-1 in the match.

With the momentum on their side and a 14-12 advantage in set four, a kill by Malarie Mican would propel the Tornados to an 11-3 burst to end the game and match.

vs. New England College, W, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17)

Similar to the first match against Arcadia, CTX raced out to an early 10-2 lead in the first set. Their lead would reach double digits at 21-11 as they would cruise to the set victory.

New England led 11-10 midway through set two, but a kill by Mican sparked a 10-3 rally for CTX. They would then go up two games to none with a kill by Hannah Francis to cap off set. 

Jumping out to a 9-3 lead in the third frame, the Tornados' confidence would continue for a 21-12 advantage. Both teams would trade points towards the end of the match, but the Tornados would go on to earn the sweep.

Concordia Texas will look to earn two more wins at the Austin College Classic tomorrow morning as they will take on Rhodes at 9am & Millsaps at 11am.
