SHERMAN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team extended their win streak to four with a pair of victories in day two at the Austin College Classic. The Tornados earned their second straight sweep in a win over Rhodes, & conquered Millsaps in four sets at Hughey Gym on Saturday.
vs. Rhodes, W, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-21)
CTX led 9-8 early when a kill by Malarie Mican started a big run for CTX that propelled them to a 25-15 win.
With both teams trading runs in the second set, the score was tied at 16-all. Back-to-back spikes by Mican & Kinlea Reeder sparked a 6-1 run for the Tornados and they led 22-17. The Lynx would cut the deficit to 23-21, but Brooklynne Fitzgerald would shut the door with a pair of kills.
In another competitive set in the third frame, Rhodes would come back from six down to take a 21-20 advantage. Concordia would then record the final five points to preserve the sweep.Â

vs. Millsaps, W, 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17)
CTX led early at 11-8, when an ace by Isabella Martinez capped off an 8-1 flurry. Keeping up the momentum, they would score the last five points of game one to claim a 25-13 victory.
Millsaps held an 11-10 lead early in the second when a kill by Mican was the start of a 7-0 burst for CTX. The Majors would fight back to make it a 22-20 game, but the Tornados would go up two games to none by tallying the final three points.
It was a close battle in set three as the score was knotted at 20-all. Millsaps would then have a 23-22 lead before winning their lone game of the series at 25-22.
The score was tied 14-14 midway through the fourth when Emma Rosier set up Haylee Diebel for a kill that started the final 11-3 run to cap off the weekend.

Concordia Texas will next head to Marshall, Texas for the ETBU Tiger Invitational. They will first take on UMHB (9am) & Belhaven (5pm) on Friday, September 5th.
