MARSHALL, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team split a pair of matches in day one of the ETBU Invitational. The Tornados were bested 3-1 by UMHB & bounced back with a 3-0 sweep over Belhaven at Ornelas Gym on Friday.
vs. UMHB, L 3-1 (19-25, 28-26, 16-25, 18-25)
UMHB jumped ahead 16-8, but a kill from Brooklynne Fitzgerald ignited a CTX rally that tied the first set at 19-all. UMHB would then recover and score the last six points to claim the set.Â
Game two had a similar theme where Concordia posted a comeback midway through the set to knot the game up at 19-19. The Crusaders led 24-23 with game point, before Kinlea Reeder & Katherine Dedear launched back-to-back kills to give CTX the lead. Following two straight points by UMHB, CTX tied the series up with the final three points of set two.
UMHB led 11-10 halfway through set through & would finish the game on a 14-6 run to go up 2-1 in the series. With the score tied at 14-14 in set four, the Crusaders would go ahead and score 11 of the final 15 points to claim the victory.Â

Belhaven led 16-15 before an ace by Fitzgerald closed out a 10-2 Tornados run in set one. It was another close game in set two as both teams were tied at 16-all when a kill by Camryn Parker was the start of three straight points for CTX.
The Blazers would comeback to tie the game at 22-22, but two staight spikes by Fitzgerald would stop the bleeding. This would give CTX the breathing room for a 25-23 win and 2-0 lead.
Surging ahead, Concordia rattled off nine straight points to start the third set. With the game in control, the Tornados completed the sweep with a 25-10 triumph.

Concordia Texas will next compete in two more match tomorrow to conclude the ETBU Tiger Invitational. They will first take on Carroll University at 3pm & the host ,ETBU, at 7pm.
