Cross Country Excels at Rice Invitational

Liliana Lutz & Isaias Mendoza paced the Tornados. Ashley Rivera & Edward Wells Wensley PR'd.

HOUSTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas cross country team continued to excel with an excellent performance at the 49th Annual Rice Invitational. A pair of Tornados in Ashley Rivera & Edward Wells Wensley recorded PRs, while a pair of freshmen in Liliana Lutz & Isaias Mendoza led the charge at the meet on Friday.

In the women's 4K, Lutz (16:50.3) paced the Tornados with a 23rd-place finish. Rivera (17:28.3) finished three spots behind as she shattered her previous two-year PR by a full two minutes.

Kaydence Williamson also recorded a sub-20 minute time at 19:35.3, while Camille McWhorter (20:10.4) & Skye Wardlay (21:08.1) finished consecutively on the leaderboard. Sophomore Ashley Ramirez rounded out the scorers for CTX with a time of 22:50.9.

In the men's 5200m race, six Tornados posted sub-20 minute times. Freshmen Mendoza (18:38.0) & Gerardo Leal (18.44.4) shined with top times for CTX.

Senior Samuel Valdez clocked in at 18:57.1, & Wells Wensley tallied a new personal-best time at 19:36.7. Hector Gutierrez paced himself to a time of 19:43.0. Also scoring for Concordia was Damon Vasquez (19:45.0) & Kaden Wolridge (24:54.2).

Concordia Texas will next head to Hunt, Texas for the Schreiner Mountaineer XC Invitational on Saturday, September 20th.
