AUSTIN, Texas - In the conference opener, the Concordia Texas volleyball team competed in a four-set battle against the University of St. Thomas. A trio of Tornados in Emma Rosier, Brooklynne Fitzgerald & Malarie Mican posted double-doubles inside the Deb & Don Christian Center on Friday night.
With the score tied 20-20 in set one, Rosier would give CTX a two-point lead with back-to-back aces. The Celts would respond and escape with the win in the set by scoring five of the final six points.
Concordia jumped out to a 7-2 advantage in game two, but St. Thomas answered with a 15-2 flurry to go up 17-9. A furious rally by Concordia would see them reclaim the lead at 23-22 following an Fitzgerald ace, but the Celts would once again find the final three points to go up 2-0 in the series.
The Tornados found immediate success in the third frame by racing out to a 4-0 lead. Maintaining the advantage at 19-17, a kill by Mican would spark a 6-0 run for CTX and give Concordia the win.
It would be another intense battle in the final set as St. Thomas led 21-18 before tallying the final four points to leave with the victory.
