Women's Soccer Battles in Home Opener Against Southwestern

Lorian Lopez scored the first goal of the season on Labor Day Monday.

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's soccer team was downed by a score of 2-1 against Southwestern University. Lorian Lopez netted the first goal of the season at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on Labor Day Monday.

The Tornados got on the board in the seventh minute when a lob onto the edge of the box from Tatum Winn found Lopez who then fired the first goal of the season for CTX.

Concordia saw another prime opportunity with a free kick just outside the box from Cecilia Escobar that just clipped the cross bar in the 35th. Southwestern would knot the game up with a goal in the 38th for a 1-1 score at halftime.

The Pirates tallied their second goal early in the second half. Pressing for the equalizer with around ten minutes remaining, two entry passes by the Tornados almost connected.

With about three & a half left, a streaking Abbie Adcock powered a shot that just missed wide left. This would be the final attempt for CTX as the Pirates would hold on for the win.

Concordia Texas will next travel to Brownwood, Texas to take on Howard Payne this Thursday, Sept. 4th. Kick off is set for 5pm.
