BELTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's tennis team dominated at the Crusader Invitational. Aaron Griffin & Rowan Daniell earned championship victories in their flights. A total of five Tornados made it to their flight finals, while the duo of Steven Scholz & Vincent Risoldi earned a spot in the flight A doubles finals.
Griffin & Daniell both went 3-0 in their brackets as Griffin claimed the Flight G title with a thrilling 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 victory over Michael Haranczyk of St. Thomas in the finals.
Daniell overcame adversity in his first match of Flight L where he dropped the first set 5-7 & bounced back with 6-3, 10-6 wins to triumph over David Garcia of ETBU. He would then go on to take down Texas Lutheran's Jackson Leslie (6-2, 6-4) in the finals.
Steven Scholz kicked off his junior campaign strong with a finals appearance in Flight A, while Jack Rectenwald (Flight H) & Evan Davis (Flight M) also battled to the championship round of their respective brackets.
After dropping their first match, CTX representatives Diego Garcia (Flight F), Kade Talbot (Flight G), & Dylan Garza (Flight K) all would earn a pair of wins in the consolation rounds.
In doubles action, Vincent Risoldi & Scholz collected two identical 8-6 triumphs in the first two rounds before falling in a Flight A thriller by a score of 8-6. Talbot & Rectenwald would also tally a pair of wins after dropping the opener in Flight E.
Concordia will next head to San Antonio to compete in the Men's ITA Regional on October 2-5. Draws are TBD.
