ABILENE, Texas - In a five-set thriller, the Concordia Texas volleyball team was outlasted by the McMurry University Warhawks. Jade Romero (25 digs, career-high) & Emma Rosier (27 assists) posted game-highs inside Kimbrell Arena on Saturday.
McMurry recorded the first five points of the match. Their lead would grow to as large as 22-10, before a Concordia comeback made it a five-game. McMurry would ultimately claim game one, 25-19.
A kill by Amaya Horton sparked 5-0 run for CTX to kick off set two. McMurry would tie the game up at 19-19 as the score would reach 22-22. Concordia would go on to win game two with a Malarie Mican kill & back-to-back aces by Horton for the final points.
With McMurry up 9-8 in the third frame, they would utilize a 12-3 run for a 21-11 lead as they would go up 2-1 in the series with a 25-14 win.
It was an early 9-7 Tornados' advantage in set four when they surged ahead for a 20-12 lead. CTX would then for a fifth and final set with a 25-16 win.
With the score deadlocked at 3-all, the Warhawks rallied five straight points, before a kill by Brooklynne Fitzgerald stopped the bleeding. The final burst by McMurry would ultimately be the difference in a 15-10 win to claim the match.
