Men's Soccer Picks Up Conference Win Over Austin College

Bryan Rios launched the game winner on Sunday.

SHERMAN, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's soccer team powered their way to a 1-0 victory over Austin College. The Tornados' earned their third clean sheet of the year, & Bryan Rios tallied the game winner at the Jack Pierce Soccer Complex this Sunday.

In what was a well-played match on both sides, there were only three total recorded shots on goal. The Tornados were the aggressors offensively as they launched 12 shot attempts compared to the Roos' five.

Midway through the first half, the Tornados fired away with a trio of shots that all missed the net that resulted in goal kicks. Finally in the 44th, a free kick near the top right of the box by Rios would sail over the defenders and land in the upper right for a goal.

Coming out the intermission, both teams would pick up the physicality. Concordia would dominate with timely tackles and clear outs as Austin would not record a single shot attempt in final 60 minutes of action.

The Tornados would almost get two more goals in the final minutes as a shot by Jesse Garfias hit the goal post and a shot by Mark Wilson missed right. The lone goal would ultimately be enough to propel CTX to their first conference win of the season.

Concordia Texas will next host Hendrix College this Friday, October 3rd. Kick off is set for 7:30pm.
