BOX SCORE ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's soccer team claimed a 3-1 victory over Howard Payne University in their season opener. Three different Tornados found the back of the net at Citizen National Bank Field on Thursday.
The agressors for the majority of the game, the Tornados outshot the Yellowjackets 18-8 (12-4 on goal). Concordia's back line also kept goalkeeper Luke Briggs (three saves) clean in his debut.
In an action packed first half that saw all four goals, the Tornados got on the board early when Alejandro Rojas connected with Brian Rios in the 8th.Â
On an aggressive counter attack, Edmond Elone would make it 2-0 in the 24th. The Yellowjackets would make it 2-1 just two minutes later, but CTX would carry a 3-1 lead into the break thanks to Jesse Garfias finding Benjamin Ponce in the 33rd.
Concordia Texas will next travel to Abilene, Texas to take on Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday, September 9th. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
