MARSHALL, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team were downed in a pair of matches in the final day of competition at the ETBU Invitational. The Tornados were upended 3-1 by Carroll University & 3-0 by 14th-ranked East Texas Baptist at Ornelas Gym on Saturday.

In a close first set, the Tornados trailed 20-19 before an Aniyah Tompkins kill gave CTX life for a 4-0 run. This would be enough of a gap to give them a 25-22 victory in game one.Â
The Pioneers used a big run in set two to even the series. Carrying momentum into the third game, Carroll led 12-5 early. Concordia would fight their way back into the frame as they would get within three points multiple times, but the Pioneers would hold on for a 25-21 win.Â
In the fourth set, an ace by Emma Rosier cut the Tornados' deficit to 15-13, but Carroll would close the match out with a 10-3 run.

ETBU led 11-10 midway through the first before separating with a 7-1 run. This would help them to a 25-15 win in game one.Â
A kill by Fitzgerald made it a 7-all ball game in set two, but the Tigers would respond with a few streaks to earn a 25-13 victory and go up 2-0 in the series.Â
With score tied at 5-5 early in the third frame, ETBU pulled away with a 10-2 flurry. They would then go on to win 25-15 and claim the match.
Concordia Texas will next return home for their first home match of the season on Wednesday, September 17th against Our Lady of the Lake University. First serve is set for 6:30pm.
