SHREVEPORT, Louisiana The Concordia Texas women's basketball team saw a fourth‑quarter lead slip away in a tightly contested 63–62 road loss to Centenary on Thursday evening inside the Gold Dome. Despite a blistering start and a season‑best performance from beyond the arc, the Tornados were unable to overcome a late push by the Ladies in the final minute.
CTX came out firing, hitting five threes in the opening quarter and building a 23–19 advantage behind the hot shooting of
Zoiey Jumawan and
Kiyah Hatcher. The Tornados led by as many as nine in the period, using defensive pressure and efficient ball movement to control the early tempo.
Centenary responded in the second quarter, capitalizing on second‑chance opportunities and trips to the free‑throw line to trim the deficit. Hatcher continued her strong half with back‑to‑back threes, but the Ladies closed the frame on a 5–0 run to tie it 36-36 at the break.
The back‑and‑forth battle intensified in the third. Katelyn Tietjen's perimeter shooting and a timely three from Briann Warehime helped CTX reclaim a brief lead, but Centenary's Savannah Stowers answered with key baskets to take the lead going into the fourth at 51–50.
Shanna Brown powered the Tornados in the final period, scoring eight of her 12 points in the quarter and giving CTX a 60–56 cushion with just over three minutes remaining. However, Centenary surged late, tying the game on a Barrow jumper before Julissa Cabrera converted a fast‑break layup with 44 seconds left to put the Ladies ahead for good.
CTX had multiple looks in the closing seconds, including offensive rebounds by Brown and Taysie Trejo, but none found the bottom of the net as the Tornados' final possession came up empty.
CTX shot an impressive 10–23 from three‑point range and forced 20 Centenary turnovers, converting them into 14 points. The Ladies, however, held a 37–29 rebounding advantage and received a combined 30 points from Barrow and Senat to get the win.
