AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team went toe‑to‑toe with SCAC‑leading Colorado College on Thursday night, but a late surge by the Tigers proved the difference in a 79–72 contest inside the Deb & Don Christian Fieldhouse.
Colorado College struck first behind an efficient opening quarter from Kayla Mackel, who scored 10 early points to help the Tigers build a 19–16 lead. CTX countered with strong perimeter shooting, including three first‑quarter threes, but CC's ability to get to the line and control the glass kept the visitors in front.
The Tigers extended their advantage to 43–36 at halftime, capitalizing on 11 made free throws in the second quarter and a balanced scoring effort. Concordia stayed within striking distance thanks to the inside‑out combination of Shanna Brown and Katelyn Tietjen, who combined for 23 first‑half points.
The Tornados delivered their best stretch in the third quarter, outscoring Colorado College 22–17 behind a flurry of threes and improved defensive pressure. Brown continued her dominant night, while Briann Warehime and Aja Holmes provided key scoring off the bench to trim the deficit to just two possessions entering the fourth.
Colorado College responded with a poised final frame, leaning on Mackel's 30‑point performance and timely free‑throw shooting to hold off the CTX rally. Despite multiple pushes from the Tornados, including late buckets from Brown and Warehime, the Tigers maintained control in the closing minutes.
Concordia's depth once again played a major role, with the bench contributing 21 points and providing critical energy throughout the second half.
