Women's Soccer Shuts Out Ozarks Behind Vassallo's Four-Point Night

Isabella Vassallo scored twice and added two assists in Friday's conference victory.

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team earned a dominant 4-0 SCAC victory over the University of the Ozarks on Friday evening at the Thomas and Frances Wilson Complex. The Tornados used a balanced offensive attack and a strong defensive effort to collect their third conference win of the season.

CTX controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Ozarks 19-3, including a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Tornados also held the Eagles without a shot on target while earning four corner kicks.

Concordia opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Isabella Vassallo found the back of the net off an assist from Amanda Falcon to give the Tornados an early 1-0 lead. Despite generating numerous chances throughout the remainder of the half, CTX took the one-goal advantage into the break.

The Tornados continued their offensive pressure in the second half and doubled their lead in the 70th minute when Vassallo scored her second goal of the match on an assist from Sari Hernandez.

Concordia put the match away in the closing minutes. Lorian Lopez scored in the 81st minute off a pass from Vassallo, and less than three minutes later Shelby Jones added another goal with Vassallo recording her second assist of the night to make the final score 4-0.

Vassallo paced the Tornados with two goals and two assists for a four-point performance. Jones and Lopez also contributed offensively, while Hernandez added an assist.

Defensively, the Tornado back line posted a clean sheet, limiting Ozarks to just three total shots and no shots on goal during the 90-minute contest.

Concordia Texas will return to action on Sunday, October 25, when it takes on Hendrix College in SCAC play.
