ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 1-0 victory over LeTourneau on Saturday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
The two sides played a scoreless opening 45 minutes, but Concordia generated the majority of the early opportunities. CTX outshot LeTourneau 6-5 in the first half and earned six corner kicks while holding the YellowJackets without a corner.
One of the Tornados' best first-half opportunities came in the 39th minute when Joseph Perez put an attempt on frame that was stopped. CTX continued the pressure by earning four corner kicks over the final 16 minutes of the half.
Concordia finally broke through in the 57th minute. Enoch Morebise stepped to the penalty spot and converted the attempt to give the Tornados a 1-0 advantage.
The CTX defense made the one-goal lead stand despite increased pressure from LeTourneau down the stretch. Leonel Cuellar kept the YellowJackets off the board for the full 90 minutes, including a save in the 78th minute. Concordia also turned away another shot on goal in the final minute that was blocked by Jesse Garfias at the line as LeTourneau pushed for an equalizer.
The clean sheet marked another strong defensive showing for the Tornados, who limited LeTourneau to just two shots on goal despite facing 15 total attempts. Concordia finished with 11 shots and six corner kicks.
Concordia Texas will next head to Georgetown, Texas to take on Texas Lutheran this Friday at 5pm.
