GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team battled Southwestern University in a tightly contested four-set match on Wednesday, falling 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 23-25, 23-25) inside the Corbin J. Robertson Center.
After dropping the opening set 25-18, Concordia responded with its strongest offensive performance of the night in the second. The Tornados totaled 17 kills with only three errors on 39 attacks for a .359 hitting percentage, taking the frame 25-22 to even the match at one set apiece.
The final two sets went down to the wire. Southwestern edged CTX 25-23 in the third before closing the match with another 25-23 victory in the fourth. The contest featured 17 ties and 12 lead changes, including 10 ties and seven lead changes in the third set alone.
Brooklynne Fitzgerald led the Tornados offensively with 15 kills while adding 17 digs, two solo blocks and a service ace. Katherine Dedear turned in an efficient performance with 14 kills against just one error, hitting .406 for the match.
Katelyn Marion added nine kills while hitting a team-best .471, while Samantha Taylor finished with seven kills. Aubrey Hughes and Kennedy Carter chipped in five kills apiece.
McKinley Grimm paced the offense with 22 assists to go along with 11 digs, while Aniyah Tompkins added 13 assists and six digs. Jade Romero matched Fitzgerald with a team-high 17 digs, and Lianna Kearns collected 14.
Concordia finished the night with 56 kills on a .244 hitting percentage, along with 77 digs, six solo blocks and four service aces.
Concordia Texas will next resume SCAC action where they will head to Seguin, Texas to face Texas Lutheran this Saturday, October 10th. First serve is set for 1pm.
