SEGUIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team fell to Texas Lutheran University, 3-0, in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) action on Friday evening at Gustafson Field.
The Tornados were led defensively by goalkeeper Kylie Bourquin, who recorded six saves while playing all 90 minutes.
Concordia opened the match aggressively, generating its first scoring opportunity just 90 seconds into the contest. Maddie Oberholtzer fired a shot on goal but Texas Lutheran's goalkeeper made the save.
The Bulldogs broke the scoreless tie in the 16th minute. TLU struck again in the 24th minute to extend their advantage to 2-0 going into the intermission.
Despite the early deficit, Bourquin helped keep the Tornados within striking distance, recording three first-half saves. Lorian Lopez provided additional offensive pressure with two shot attempts in the opening period.
Texas Lutheran added its final goal in the 51st minute.
Concordia continued battling in the second half, with Shelby Jones recording a shot attempt in the 54th minute. Bourquin added three more saves after halftime to finish with six on the evening.
The Tornados generated one final scoring opportunity in the closing seconds as Mahaley Merkens placed a shot on target. Lopez led Concordia with two shots, while Oberholtzer and Merkens each registered a shot on goal.
Concordia Texas will look to bounce back in SCAC play next Friday, October 16th in Shreveport, Louisiana where they will take on Centenary College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
