ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team saw its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament run come to an end following a heartbreaking 7-6 penalty shootout loss to LeTourneau University in the semifinals on Friday evening at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
The second-seeded Tornados battled the YellowJackets to a scoreless draw through 110 minutes of action before LeTourneau advanced in the seventh round of penalty kicks.
Despite the result, senior goalkeeper Leonel Cuellar etched his name into the Concordia record books, tying the program record for career shutouts with his 13th. The reigning SCAC Defensive Player of the Year played all 110 minutes and recorded four saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Concordia came out aggressively, generating 10 shots in the opening half while limiting LeTourneau to five attempts. Senior defender Steven Dolan registered the Tornados' first shot on goal in the fifth minute, but his attempt was turned away.
Junior defender Enoch Morebise nearly broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when his shot struck the crossbar. The Tornados continued to apply pressure but entered halftime in a scoreless tie.
The second half featured opportunities on both ends, with Concordia nearly finding the breakthrough in the 72nd minute. Ayden Hildreth fired a shot that struck the crossbar, marking the Tornados' second attempt off the woodwork.
Freshman Lorenzo Maule later tested the goalkeeper in the 87th minute, but his attempt was saved to keep the match scoreless heading into overtime.
Concordia continued searching for the game-winner during the extra periods. Andres Munoz registered a shot on goal in the 96th minute, while Morebise and Conner Rodgers added attempts as the Tornados pushed forward.
Neither team could find the back of the net through 110 minutes, sending the semifinal matchup to a penalty shootout.
Morebise, Dolan, Hildreth, Cuellar, Edmond Elone and Joseph Perez each converted their penalty attempts for Concordia. However, the Tornados' seventh attempt was unsuccessful, allowing LeTourneau to secure the 7-6 shootout victory.
Concordia finished with a 19-18 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in corner kicks. Morebise, Munoz and Ivan Essis each recorded three shots to lead the Tornados.
The result concludes Concordia's 2026 campaign following an impressive season that included an 8-1 SCAC record, a second-place conference finish and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
