Tornados Show Fight but Fall 72–55 to St. Thomas

CTX battles back after slow start, but early Celt surge proves too much in SCAC matchup

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team put together several strong stretches but was unable to overcome a big first‑quarter deficit, falling 72–55 to St. Thomas (TX) on Saturday afternoon inside the Deb & Don Christian Fieldhouse.

St. Thomas opened the game at a blistering pace, hitting five threes in the first quarter and capitalizing on second‑chance opportunities to build a 26–10 lead. Concordia settled in defensively during the second period, holding the Celts to just 14 points while finding more rhythm on the offensive end. CTX trimmed the margin to 40–26 at halftime behind improved ball movement and trips to the free‑throw line.

The Tornados continued to battle in the third quarter, shooting over 53 percent from the field and generating momentum with timely stops. But each time CTX threatened to close the gap, St. Thomas responded with perimeter shooting and transition baskets to maintain control. The Celts' 11 made threes and 27 points off turnovers ultimately created too much separation.

Concordia closed strong in the fourth, outscoring St. Thomas 13–8 and showing the same resilience that has defined their recent performances. Shanna Brown led CTX with 12 points and five rebounds, while Katelyn Tietjen added 12 points, knocking down a pair of threes. Aja Holmes provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and six rebounds, and Taysie Trejo contributed seven points and four boards.
