HOUSTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's basketball team came up short in a competitive SCAC showdown, falling 84–76 to nationally ranked St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon inside the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center. Senior guard Joey Ramirez reached the 1000-point milestone in only his second season as a Tornado.
The game featured 11 ties and 18 lead changes, with both teams trading momentum throughout the first half before the Celts took a 32–29 lead into the break.
In the second half, St. Thomas found its offensive rhythm, shooting 58.6 percent from the field and going a perfect 21‑for‑23 at the free‑throw line. Concordia countered with strong perimeter shooting, finishing 9‑of‑20 from deep, and a 47‑point second half, but the Celts' efficiency and 39–24 rebounding advantage proved to be the difference.
Ramirez led the Tornados with 21 points, while Percy Green added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. Darone Leakes provided a spark with 10 points in 20 minutes, and Tremayne Martin had eight points and three assists. Concordia's bench contributed a strong 35 points overall.
Despite forcing 12 turnovers and scoring 16 points off those miscues, CTX couldn't slow down St. Thomas guard Corey Thompson, who poured in a game‑high 33 points for the Celts.
Concordia Texas moves to 19–4 on the season and 12–2 in SCAC play. The Tornados will look to bounce back as they continue their push toward postseason action.
