HOUSTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team went stride‑for‑stride with St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon, but a cold shooting stretch in the final quarter swung the outcome in a 61–54 setback inside the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center.
The Tornados opened with one of their sharpest first‑half efforts of conference play, matching the Celts possession‑for‑possession through the opening 20 minutes. CTX used timely perimeter shooting — including two first‑half threes from Briann Warehime and steady scoring from Taysie Trejo to stay within reach at the break, trailing just 37–33.
Concordia briefly grabbed momentum early in the third behind a pair of defensive stops and a Trejo triple, but St. Thomas countered with a series of paint touches and free throws to maintain a narrow edge. Aja Holmes provided a major spark off the bench, scoring 10 of her team‑high 16 points in the middle quarters to keep CTX within striking distance entering the fourth.
The final frame proved decisive. Despite multiple defensive stands and an 11–8 advantage in fast‑break points, the Tornados struggled to convert late looks, shooting 2–14 from the field in the fourth quarter. St. Thomas capitalized at the line and on the glass, using a 41–23 rebounding margin to close out the game.
Trejo anchored the CTX backcourt with 14 points, four steals, and five made free throws, while Katelyn Tietjen added eight points, four rebounds, and four assists. Warehime chipped in seven points all in the first half
Concordia's bench once again delivered meaningful production, combining for 25 points and helping fuel several scoring runs throughout the afternoon.
