CONWAY, Ark. – The Concordia Texas Men's Basketball team saw its historic season come to a close Saturday afternoon, falling to St. Thomas (TX), 92-74, in the SCAC Championship game at Grove Gymnasium.
The Tornados conclude the year at 23-5 overall after capturing the SCAC regular season title and advancing to the conference championship game.
Joey Ramirez and Percy Green were both named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team following their performances throughout the weekend.
Green delivered a strong outing in the title game, leading Concordia with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting while going 7-of-9 from the free throw line and pulling down nine rebounds. Ramirez matched him with 22 points of his own, adding eight rebounds, three steals and two assists in 36 minutes.
Concordia came out strong early, building a 12-2 advantage in the opening minutes of the first half. However, St. Thomas responded with a decisive run midway through the period and carried a 44-33 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Celts extended their lead behind efficient shooting and points in the paint. St. Thomas finished the game shooting 49.2 percent from the field and held a 52-42 edge in points in the paint.
Anariss Brandon added 12 points for the Tornados, while Aaron San Miguel contributed nine points and three assists. Concordia finished the contest shooting 37.1 percent from the floor and 76.9 percent from the free throw line.
Despite the loss, the Tornados completed one of the most successful seasons in program history, finishing first in the SCAC and ranking among the nation's top teams in scoring and forced turnovers.
