CLERMONT, Florida - The Concordia Texas softball team opened its Spring Games schedule with a 9-6 extra-inning victory over Wisconsin–Platteville. The Tornados collected 14 hits and used a four-run eighth inning to secure the win on Sunday morning.
Concordia struck first in the third inning when Christian Everett scored on a sacrifice fly from Kylie Kirk. The Tornados extended their lead in the fourth, scoring four runs behind RBI singles from Malarie Mican and Kylie Denaro to take a 5-0 advantage.
Wisconsin–Platteville chipped away with a two-run homer in the sixth before tying the game with three runs in the seventh inning.
Concordia responded in the eighth as Everett drove in the go-ahead run before Mican and Kirk each added RBIs to push the lead to 9-5.
Karlee Mathis earned the win after tossing all eight innings in the circle. Mican, Denaro, and Kamryn Kothman each recorded multiple hits, while Kirk drove in three runs to lead the Tornados offensively.
Concordia Texas will next take on Wisconsin-River Falls later today at 12:15pm CST.
