Softball Drops Nail-Biter with Eastern Connecticut State

Tornados return home following a 3-1 trip in Florida.

CLERMONT, Flordia - The Concordia Texas softball team closed out its run at The Spring Games with a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tornados struck first in the opening inning, as Kylie Denaro reached base and later scored on an RBI double from Kylie Kirk to take an early 1-0 lead. Concordia threatened again in the second, loading the bases with two outs, but was unable to add on.

Kirk led the offensive effort, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, while Karlee Mathis added an RBI single in the seventh.

In the circle, Kirk was strong through six innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) while working out of multiple jams to keep the Tornados in front and later tied. Eastern Connecticut State broke through in the fourth on an unearned run and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI single.

Concordia responded in the seventh, as Kirk and Molly Olivarez reached base before Mathis delivered a game-tying RBI single to make it 2-2.

However, Eastern Connecticut State answered in the bottom half of the inning, using a leadoff walk and a pair of hits to push across the game-winning run and secure the 3-2 decision.

Concordia Texas will now return home to host Austin College for a conference series starting this Saturday, March 21st. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.
