SHERMAN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team dominated Austin College with a 18-7, run-rule victory in game one of the conference series. The Tornados posted season-highs hits (21) and runs scored at Baker Field on Friday.
After trading a pair of runs in the first inning, the Tornados broke the game open in the second, capitalizing on defensive miscues to plate six runs and take control early. Concordia never looked back, adding five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to extend the lead.
Kalen Clark led the charge, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run. Landon Hyle had a huge day at the plate as well, finishing 4-for-5 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Logan Smith added four hits and three RBIs, while Samuel Ortiz chipped in three hits and two RBIs in the win.
On the mound, Rowdy Hoadley earned his first win of the season, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing seven runs on eight hits. He worked through traffic throughout the night and kept Austin from mounting any serious comeback.
Austin made some noise late with three runs in the seventh, but Concordia's early offensive surge proved too much to overcome as the Tornados secured the 18-7 victory.
Concordia & Austin College will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
