Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Bested in Doubleheader at UMHB.

Kyle Kirk homered in game one on Monday.

BELTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team fell in a pair of games against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Kylie Kirk homered in game one of the doubleheader on Monday.

Game One: L, 4-3 (8 Innings)

The Tornados struck first in the opening inning, as Malarie Mican set the tone and Molly Olivarez delivered an RBI single. CTX added two more in the third inning behind a two-run home run from Kylie Kirk to take a 3-0 lead.

Kirk was strong in the circle, keeping UMHB scoreless through four innings, but the Cru eventually broke through in the fifth. A three-run frame tied the game at 3-3.

Both teams traded chances late, but the game went to extras where the Cru capitalized on the international tiebreaker and sealed the walk-off loss for CTX.

Game Two: L, 12-3 (6 Innings)

Concordia Texas jumped out early once again, but Mary Hardin-Baylor responded with a big middle inning and pulled away for a 12-3 win.

CTX plated three runs in the first inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues and aggressive baserunning. Kirk highlighted the frame with an RBI single, while Kamryn Kothman added a run-producing play to give the Tornados an early cushion.

The momentum shifted in the third inning when UMHB erupted for five runs to take the lead. The Cru continued to add on in the fourth and fifth before breaking the game open with a five-run sixth inning, capped by a grand slam.

Kirk finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Mican and Kylie Denaro each scored runs as part of the early surge.

Concordia Texas will look to bounce back this Thursday when they hosted ETBU for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
