AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader against sixth-ranked East Texas Baptist on Thursday at Roberts Family Field.
GAME ONE, L 4-3
Concordia struck first in the opening inning as Malarie Mican set the tone with a leadoff single and stolen base, later scoring on an RBI knock from Kylie Kirk.
After ETBU answered with three runs in the third, CTX battled back in the fourth. Karlee Mathis delivered a double and Katie Bethke followed with a two-RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.
The Tigers regained the lead in the fifth with an RBI single, and Concordia threatened late, loading the bases in the seventh, but could not push across the tying run.
GAME TWO, L 4-1
East Texas Baptist jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and added an insurance run in the sixth.
The Tornados broke through in the fourth inning as Kirk singled and later scored on an RBI single from Mathis to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, CTX was unable to generate further offense, finishing with four hits in the game. Kirk went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs (two earned) while striking out three.
Concordia totaled 12 hits across the doubleheader, with Mican leading the way with three hits and two stolen bases, while Mathis and Bethke each drove in multiple runs in game one.
Concordia Texas will next have a week off before traveling to Clarksville, Arkansas to take on the University of the Ozarks for a conference series starting Next Friday, April 10th. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
