Softball Claims Doubleheader with LeTourneau

Tornados won game one, 13-9 and game two, 7-5.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team swept a doubleheader against LeTourneau on Thursday at Roberts Family Field, earning a 13-9 win in game one and a 7-5 victory in game two.

Game One: W, 13-9

Concordia struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Kylie Kirk lifted a sacrifice fly to score Malarie Mican. After the YellowJackets took a brief lead in the second, CTX responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. RBI hits from Christian Everett, Malarie Mican, and Kylie Denaro helped the Tornados regain control.

CTX continued to build momentum, plating four runs in the third inning and adding three more in the fourth to stretch the lead. Everett and Katie Bethke each delivered RBI hits in the fourth, while Denaro capped off the rally with a bases-loaded RBI walk.

LeTourneau avoided getting run-ruled and rallied with a five-run fifth inning to cut into the deficit, but Concordia answered with two insurance runs in the bottom of the frame to hold on for the 13-9 victory.

Game Two: W, 7-5

LeTourneau jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Concordia answered immediately with a three-run bottom half to take control of the game.

Kirk delivered a key two-RBI double in the inning, and Lilly Longoria followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Tornados a 3-2 lead.

The Tornados broke the game open in the fourth inning with four runs. Denaro drove in two with a double before Kirk reached on an error that allowed another run to score. Molly Olivarez added an RBI double later in the inning to extend the lead to 7-2.

LeTourneau pushed across three runs in the fifth to make things interesting, but Concordia pitcher Karlee Mathis held the YellowJackets scoreless the rest of the way to secure the complete-game victory.

Concordia Texas and LeTourneau will conclude the series with game three tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
