Baseball Takes Down Muhlenberg in Non-Conference Action

Landon Hyle recorded five RBIs on Monday.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Concordia Texas baseball team pulled away late to defeat Muhlenberg College, 12–5, in a non-conference matchup Mondday evening at Gardner-Boggs Field.

Landon Hyle led the offensive effort with five RBIs, while Kolten McDaniel scored three runs and Austin Pryor finished with two hits and two RBIs. Carson Riley also recorded two hits for Concordia.

Out of the bullpen, Ralph Wallace III earned the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Chase North closed the game with two shutout innings to secure the save.

After falling behind early, the Tornados steadily chipped away before a big eighth inning sealed the win. Concordia finished with 12 runs on 10 hits while forcing three Muhlenberg errors.

Muhlenberg struck first with a run in the second inning, but Concordia answered in the third. An error allowed McDaniel to score before Bo Dinscore followed with an RBI single to give the Tornados a 2–1 lead. The Mules tied the game in the fourth, but Concordia regained the advantage in the fifth when Samuel Ortiz delivered an RBI single to plate McDaniel.

Muhlenberg responded with three runs in the sixth to move ahead 5–3, but Concordia quickly erased the deficit. In the bottom of the inning, Rhenn Andrewartha drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt and Austin Pryor added an RBI single to even the score at 5–5.

The Tornados took control in the seventh when Hyle delivered the biggest swing of the night, racing around the bases for a two-run inside-the-park home run to give Concordia a 7–5 lead.

Concordia then broke the game open in the eighth, scoring five runs highlighted by Pryor's RBI double and a three-run double from Hyle.

Concordia Texas will look to build on their momentum in another non-conference game tomorrow against North Central College. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
