CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - The Concordia Texas softball team swept the University of the Ozarks in a doubleheader of the series opener on Friday.
Junior
Kylie Kirk stole the show with eight strikeouts in game one and a program-record three homeruns (12 total bases) in game two at the Wilson Athletic Complex. Kirk also reset the record books, passing
Jessica Rattan (122, 2008-11) with 129 career RBIs &
Karen Smart (44 in 2008) with 47 RBIs this season.
GAME ONE: W: 4-1
The Tornados relied on a dominant performance in the circle from Kirk, who tossed a complete game and allowed just one run and six base runners total.
Concordia struck early in the first inning, as Lilly Longoria delivered a two-RBI double to give the Tornados a 2-0 lead. Both offenses stayed quiet for much of the game before CTX added insurance in the seventh, capitalizing on a pair of Eagles' errors to score Kamryn Kothman & Christian Everett.
Everett led the way with two hits, while Longoria drove in half of the team's runs. Kirk also contributed at the plate and controlled the game throughout to secure the win.
GAME TWO: W, 9-2
Concordia's offense erupted for 13 hits in a 9-2 victory. The Tornados jumped out to a fast start when a two-RBI single from Karlee Mathis escorted Kylie Denaro & Longoria across home plate. A third run would score in the first with a RBI-single by Kothman that brought home Molly Olivarez.
Kirk's historic day included going 3-for-4 with three home runs and five RBIs to power the lineup. Mathis added two hits and two RBIs, while Longoria, Christian Everett, and Katie Bethke all contributed multiple hits.
Mathis also delivered in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing just two runs on 10 hits. Concordia consistently applied pressure offensively, scoring in five different innings and pulling away late to secure the doubleheader victory.
Concordia Texas & the Ozarks will conclude the series tomorrow First pitch is scheduled for 11am.
