SEGUIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team jumped out early but couldn't hold off a late surge, falling 6-2 to Texas Lutheran in game onene of the series on Thursday night in Seguin.
The Tornados struck first in the third inning, putting together a strong two-out rally. Louis Alonzo singled to start things, and Kalen Clark followed with an RBI double to put Concordia on the board. Jett Warner kept it going with an RBI single up the middle, giving CTX a 2-0 lead.
On the mound, Concordia got a solid start from Gabe Guitterez, who tossed four shutout innings and helped keep Texas Lutheran off balance early. The bullpen continued to hold the lead into the late innings as the Tornados carried that 2-0 advantage into the seventh.
Texas Lutheran broke through in the seventh, capitalizing on walks and a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs then took control in the eighth, plating four runs on just three hits to build a 6-2 lead.
Offensively, Concordia totaled 11 hits, with Alonzo, Warner, and Logan Smith each recording multi-hit performances, but the Tornados were unable to capitalize in key moments, leaving nine runners on base.
CTX threatened in the ninth with a pair of singles, but Texas Lutheran closed the door to secure the series-opening win.
Concordia Texas will look to bounce back and claim the series in a doubleheader with Texas Lutheran tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
