HOUSTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team was bested by a score of 4-3 in a close series-opening contest at the Univerisity of St. Thomas.
Kylie Denaro led the Tornados with two hits, while
Christian Everett and
Karlee Mathis each drove in a run at the WUSA Fields on Friday.
St. Thomas struck first in the 3rd inning with a two-RBI double to take a 2-0 lead. Concordia answered in a big way in the 4th, plating three runs behind RBI hits from Molly Olivarez, Mathis, and Everett to go up 3-2.
The Celts responded in the 5th, tying the game on a passed ball before taking the lead for good on an RBI single.
Concordia threatened late, putting runners in scoring position in the 7th, but couldn't push the equalizer across.
Kylie Kirk went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) with five strikeouts.
Concordia Texas and St. Thomas will next conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
