HOUSTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team split a doubleheader with St. Thomas, taking game one before falling in the rubber match on Saturday.
The Tornados opened the day with a strong 3-1 win, using a three-run third inning to take control. Kylie Kirk, Molly Olivarez, and Karlee Mathis each drove in runs, while Malarie Mican led the offense with three hits.
In the circle, Mathis was dominant, tossing a complete game and limiting St. Thomas to just one run.
In game two, Concordia couldn't keep the momentum going, dropping a 5-0 decision. The Tornados collected six hits but were unable to break through, leaving runners on base throughout the game. St. Thomas broke a scoreless tie in the fifth before pulling away with a four-run sixth inning.
With the conclusion of the regular season, Concordia Texas will now shift their focus to the SCAC Tournament where they will enter as the three-seed. The Tornados will take on either Centenary or the Ozarks in the first round next Friday, May 1st (double-elimination format). First pitch is scheduled for 1:30pm.
