Baseball Holds Off Centenary in SCAC Tournament Opener

Early offense & balanced defense keeps Tornados in winner's bracket.

CLEBURNE, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team opened up the SCAC Tournament with a first round win by a score of 4-3 over Centenary College. The Tornados used early offense and a strong defensive effort to advance at La Moderna Field on Thursday.

Centenary struck first in the second inning, but the Tornados answered in the third with a three-run frame. Jett Warner tied the game with an RBI single before Jake Townsend delivered the big swing, driving in two runs to give Concordia a 3-1 lead.

After the Gents cut it to 3-2 in the fourth, Concordia responded immediately. Logan Smith came around to score on an RBI single from Louis Alonzo, pushing the lead to 4-2.

On the mound, Rowdy Hoadley battled through five innings to earn the win, while Austin Pryor shut the door with four innings of relief to secure the save. The defense came up big as well, turning four double plays to help control the game.

Centenary made things interesting with a solo homer in the eighth, but the Tornados held firm down the stretch to secure the victory.

With the win, Concordia remains in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will face LeTourneau on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm tomorrow (weather permitting).
