ABILENE, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team was downed by a score of 4-1 in the SCAC Tournament.
Texas Lutheran did its damage early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding an insurance run in the sixth. Concordia was held quiet for much of the game, managing just four hits, with its lone run coming in the sixth inning.
Malarie Mican led the Tornados with a 1-for-3 day and scored the team's lone run, while Kylie Denaro and Molly Olivarez each reached base twice with a hit and a walk. Katie Bethke also added a hit as Concordia totaled four on the day.
In the circle, Karlee Mathis settled things down in relief, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing just one run while keeping the Tornados within striking distance.
Despite the late push, Concordia couldn't string together enough offense, leaving five runners on base (bases loaded in the sixth) in the loss.
Concordia Texas will now look to immediately rebound in the night cap where they will face either St. Thomas or the Ozarks with a spot in the SCAC Championship Series on the line. First pitch is scheduled for 8pm.
