GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team came up just short against Southwestern University, falling 1-0 on Saturday at Southwestern Varsity Fields. The loss moved the Tornados to 3-3-1 overall.
Concordia came out aggressive offensively, generating four shots in the opening 12 minutes. Enoch Morebise, Edmond Elone, Andres Munoz and Joseph Perez each recorded early attempts as the Tornados looked to strike first.
Southwestern broke through in the 25th minute with a goal scored for a 1-0 advantage. Concordia continued to create chances following the goal, putting three shots on frame over the remainder of the half. Morebise, Aaron Hogner and Adrian Requena each forced saves as the Tornados entered halftime trailing by one.
The Tornados continued searching for the equalizer in the second half. Elone put a shot on target in the 56th minute, but Southwestern made the save. Concordia also earned four second-half corner kicks as it continued to apply pressure.
Leonel Cuellar kept Concordia within striking distance throughout the match, finishing with five saves while allowing just the lone first-half goal.
Concordia finished with 12 shots, including five on goal, while Southwestern totaled 20 shots and six on frame. The Tornados held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and generated 10 of their 12 shots during the opening half.
Concordia Texas will now have a week off before traveling to San Antonio to take on Trinity. Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.
