HOUSTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas volleyball team opened SCAC play with a 3-1 victory over the University of St. Thomas on Sunday.
The Tornados took the first two sets 25-22 and 25-21 before the Celts responded with a 25-20 win in the third. CTX bounced back in the fourth, taking the set 25-20 to secure the conference-opening victory. Concordia finished with 49 kills and hit .219 while holding St. Thomas to a .159 hitting percentage.
Samantha Taylor led the attack with 13 kills and a .270 hitting percentage, while Aubrey Hughes added 10 kills, three service aces and four total blocks. Brooklynne Fitzgerald contributed nine kills, 14 digs and five total blocks, while Kennedy Carter finished with eight kills without an error for a .533 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Jade Romero led the Tornados with 23 digs, while McKinley Grimm posted a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs. Aniyah Tompkins added 16 assists and nine digs.
Concordia Texas will next head to Seguin, Texas to compete in a SCAC Crossover next Saturday at Texas Lutheran. The Tornados will play the Ozarks at 12:15pm and Hendrix at 7:15pm.
