ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2026 season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Hardin-Simmons on Thursday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. The Tornados improved to 1-1 overall with the victory.
Concordia controlled the attack from the opening whistle, firing 14 shots in the first half while limiting the Cowboys to four. The Tornados continually tested the HSU defense before finally breaking through late in the opening period.
In the 40th minute, Joseph Perez found the back of the net off an assist from Luis Pineda, giving Concordia a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Tornados continued to generate chances after the break, outshooting Hardin-Simmons 15-4 in the second half. Concordia put five shots on goal over the final 45 minutes but was unable to add to its advantage.
On the other end, goalkeeper Luke Briggs and the CTX defense made the one-goal lead stand. Briggs played all 90 minutes and collected six saves to secure the clean sheet.
Concordia finished with a commanding 29-8 advantage in shots and 12-6 edge in shots on goal. Andres Munoz paced the Tornados with five shots, while Edmond Elone, Aaron Hogner, Enoch Morebise and Ivan Essis each added three attempts.
Concordia Texas will next hit the road for Marshall, Texas this Wednesday to take on East Texas Baptist. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
