GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Concordia University Texas cross country program returned to familiar ground as co‑hosts of the Stormy Seas Opener, and the Tornados delivered one of their strongest season debuts in recent years. Both the men's and women's teams posted faster scoring averages than last year's Stormy Seas meet, signaling meaningful progress from returners and an immediate impact from newcomers.
The women's squad set the tone with a 23:46 scoring team average, improving on last year's 25:11 and showcasing a deeper, more competitive lineup. Joselyn Pedraza led the Tornados with a composed season opener, while Samantha Sanchez delivered one of the day's standout performances by setting a new PR, surpassing her previous high‑school best. The group's tight pack running and steady pacing helped secure the improved team mark.
On the men's side, CTX matched the women's momentum with a 17:56 scoring average, edging last year's 17:59 and reflecting a disciplined team effort. Jacob Del Real led the Tornados with a strong opening‑meet performance, setting the tone for a squad that showed both experience and emerging talent.
