WHITTIER, Calif. – The Concordia Texas Women's Soccer team wrapped up its California road trip with a hard‑fought 2–1 setback against Whittier College on Saturday afternoon.
CTX found its rhythm in the second half, out‑shooting the Poets 4–3 after the break and pulling within one on a goal from
Cecilia Escobar, but Whittier held on in the closing minutes to secure the result.
Whittier truck first in the 22nd minute, converting the match's opening goal to take a 1–0 lead. Concordia responded with steady defensive organization, highlighted by goalkeeper Emma Guillen's five saves, including key stops in the 2nd, 13th, and 28th minutes . CTX entered halftime trailing 1–0 but remained well within reach.
The Tornados generated more attacking pressure after the break, earning their first corner kick in the 57th minute and pushing forward through Isabella Farias and Emma Payne, who combined for three shots and two on frame. Whittier doubled its lead in the 70th minute, but CTX responded immediately.
Just 81 seconds later, Escobar broke through with Concordia's first goal of the game, finishing in the 72nd minute to cut the deficit to 2–1 . The Tornados continued to press, earning another corner and pushing numbers forward, but Whittier's defense held firm in the final stretch.
Concordia totaled seven shots, three on goal, and two second‑half corners, while Guillen played all 90 minutes in goal with five saves.
CTX now returns home to Austin, where the Tornados will host their next match on September 11 at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
