Cory Patton is in his fourth year as an assistant coach on the Concordia University Texas baseball staff. He is primarily responsible for the training and development of the outfielders and also assists with coaching the hitters while helping with other administrative duties.

Patton was a member of the 2012 ASC West Division Coaching Staff of the Year, as the Tornados were ranked as high as fourth nationally during the season and finished with a school-record 37 victories in the program’s NCAA Division III era. He most notably coached Brent Schaekel, who was a D3Baseball.com All-West Region selection and an All-ASC West Division First Team honoree, and a strong group of outfielders that helped the Tornados capture their second straight ASC Tournament crown and make their second straight NCAA West Regional appearance.

The outfielders Patton oversaw also played a major role in leading Concordia to its second American Southwest Conference championship title as well as a run at the NCAA West Regional in 2011. Bucky Bryant made the All-ASC Second Team, while Schaekel was named to the all-tournament squad at the NCAAs.

In his first year on the sidelines, Patton most notably oversaw two Tornado players who earned postseason recognition from the ASC. Pedro Maldonado and Michael Bogard were each named to the All-ASC West Division Second Team.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Patton has been competing professionally in independent leagues for the last five years. He recently won a championship with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the Northern League.

Patton began his professional career as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization for four years after he was selected by the organization in the sixth round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. He was a four-year all-star in the team’s farm system, making it as high as the Class A Advanced level with the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League.

Patton earned two letters at Texas A&M as an outfielder in 2003 and 2004. He led the Aggies in hits, RBIs and home runs while helping the squad reach the NCAA Tournament each year, including the Super Regionals as a senior.

Prior to transferring to Texas A&M, Patton played at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas for two seasons. He was named the 2002 NJCAA David Rowlands Male Student-Athlete of the Year, which is awarded to the nation’s top player, after leading the squad to a 50-16 record and a runner-up finish in the Central District.

Patton led the team with a .454 batting average and set school records for home runs (31), RBIs (120) and slugging percentage (.962). His home run and RBI marks also led the NJCAA. In addition, he was a first-team all-conference selection as an outfielder and pitcher, the league’s most valuable player, a First Team Region VI selection, an NJCAA Division I First Team All-American and the NJCAA – ABCA Division I Player of the Year. For his efforts, Patton was recently inducted into the Seward County Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the institution's inaugural class last spring.

Patton received his bachelor’s degree in leadership and development from Texas A&M in 2004 after earning an associate’s degree in applied sciences at Seward County Community College in 2002. He currently resides in Leander.
