Concordia Starts Season with a Win

Austin, TX- Concordia University Texas (1-0) women's basketball team picked up a win to start off their 2008-2009 season against the University of the Ozarks, 73-72 on Saturday night at the Concordia Texas Field House in Austin, TX. Concordia was fouled with less than one second left as Katie Shaffstall picked up the second free throw to give Concordia the victory.  

Concordia had a 21 point lead with twelve minutes left in the game but the Eagles refused to die as they got back within one after a 17 point run late in the second half. 

Kassandra Bills led all Tornados with 22 points, while picking up three steals. Junior Lori Lee Back added 14 points and senior Whitney Clancy chipped in with 10 points also leading all players with seven assists. The University of the Ozarks were lead by Ally Goddard, who finished with 14 points.

As a team the Tornados shot 42% from the field going 23 of 55 and 81% from the free throw line. 

Concordia will match up against the University of Texas at Dallas on Monday December 1, 2008. The tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm. For all game information and the live play by play link check the Concordia University Texas Athletics site.
