A Late Run Was Too Late For the Tornados

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Concordia University Texas was defeated Thursday night by the Howard Payne Lady Jackets 74-56, in American Southwest Conference action in the Brownwood Coliseum. Concordia falls to 4-7 overall and 4-5 in the ASC while, Howard Payne improves to 12-2 overall and 8-2.

The Howard Payne defense kept the Tornados from reaching double digits till eight minutes into the first half and went into half time with a 41-23 lead.

Concordia made a late run in the last minutes of play outscoring the Lady Jackets 24-5 although it was not enough as Howard Payne took the 74-56 win.

Freshman Kathy Ashley led Concordia with 12 points. While seniors Whitney Clancy added 11 points and Kassandra Bills with 10 points.

Howard Payne freshmen Brittany Zamora led the Lady Jackets with 18 points.

The Tornados were outrebounded by the Lady Jackets 48-32 but forced 22 Howard Payne turnovers. As a team, Concordia shot 33% from the field.

Concordia will travel to Alpine, TX to take on Sul Ross State University in another ASC match up. The game is scheduled to start Saturday at 1:00pm.
