AUSTIN, Texas -- Junior forward #Lya Morfitt# netted two goals and led the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Huston-Tillotson University Tuesday evening at St. Francis Field. Tonight's win gives the Tornados (5-6-3) the program record for wins in a single season.
CTX dominated the match from the opening kick off as Morfitt scored her first goal in the eighth minute. Freshman #Dalaine Whitlock# and sophomore #Hilary Wagner# each recorded an assist on the first goal of the match.
Morfitt struck again in the 31st minute, scoring the game winning goal on an assist from sophomore #Rose Cutrer#.
HTU (0-9-1) was able to cut the lead in half in the 55th minute as Mayra Patino scored on a penalty kick past CTX freshman goalkeeper #Amanda Benton#.
The Tornados outshot HTU, 29-5, in the match. Sophomore midfielder #Kiera Ruck# launched 12 shots to lead all players, including three on target.
CTX will return to action on Sat., Oct. 24 in the final regular season game at Town & Country Field at 1 p.m. Prior to Saturday's game with the University of Texas-Tyler, the Tornados will honor senior #Emily Sager#, who is making her final home appearance for CTX.
