AUSTIN, Texas --
A three-goal second half propelled Howard Payne University to a 3-1 victory over the Concordia University Texas women's soccer team Saturday afternoon at Town & Country Optimist Soccer Fields.

CTX (2-4-3, 1-4-1 ASC) struck first after #Hilary Wagner# netted her first score of the season on an assist from #Sara Schatte# in the fifth minute.

Neither team would threaten in the remainder of the first half, though CTX controlled the pace and possession for most of the first period.

The second half was a different story as Howard Payne (4-5-1, 3-2-1 ASC) took control of the match.  HPU scored the equalizing goal in the 52nd minute as Susana Chavarria scored from 45 yards out on a shot that drifted over the outstretched arms of CTX goalkeeper #Teysha Sivage#.

Chavarria had a hand in the game-winning goal as HPU's Leslie Jones scored in the 63rd minute.

Jones would add another goal for Howard Payne two minutes later on a rebound.

Jones' first attempt was saved by Sivage and deflected off the post.  Jones received the deflection at her feet and calmly placed the ball into the back of the empty net.

HPU outshot the Tornados 20-5 overall.  The Lady Jackets took 13 shots in the second half.  CTX, on the other hand, had just one shot attempt in the second half.

Sivage recorded seven saves in the contest for CTX, including six in the second half.

The Tornados will attempt to snap their current three-game losing streak when they travel to Kerrville to play Schreiner University on Friday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
