CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- Freshman guard #Julia Bellquist# poured in 17 points in her collegiate debut to help the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to a season-opening 84-71 win at the University of the Ozarks Saturday evening in Mabee Gymnasium.
Bellquist was joined in double digits by three other CTX (1-0, 1-0 American Southwest Conference) players. Junior forward #Jennifer Herman# scored 16 points, while junior guard #Ashley Coria# and freshman forward #Skylar Lott# each netted 10.
CTX trailed by as much as 14 points in the first half, but battled back to hold a two point lead at haltime (37-35) over Ozarks (1-3, 0-1 ASC). In the second half, the Tornados pulled away and turned the one-time 14-point deficit into a 14-point lead of their own.
The Tornados shot 44.6% (29-of-65) from the field in the contest, including 52.6% (10-of-19) from beyond the three-point line. Ozarks shot 40.8% (20-of-49) from the floor and 33.3% (5-of-15) from beyond the arc.
Senior forward #Kerrie Carter# scored eight points and added a team-high 10 rebounds in the win. Freshman guard #Kimi Ehrlich# scored six points and dished out a team-best six assists.
Ozarks' Sabrina Goddard led all players by scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Lindsey Louks posted a game-high 13 rebounds for the Lady Eagles.
The Tornados will continue their three-game road trip by stopping at the University of Texas-Dallas Monday night at 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Tornados Sports Radio Network.
